Morehead State at Tennessee Tech
Preview: Morehead State Eagles at Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (Interstat) — Two Ohio Valley Conference men’s basketball teams seeking momentum will meet Saturday when the Morehead State Eagles visit the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles at Eblen Center.
Both teams enter the matchup on the heels of losses. Morehead State (8-10, 2-3 OVC) fell 105-100 in overtime at Tennessee State on Thursday. Tennessee Tech (7-11, 1-4) dropped its home contest to Southern Indiana, 71-54, the same night.
The Eagles will lean on guard George Marshall, who is coming off a career-high 29-point performance in the overtime loss. Marshall logged 38 minutes and added four assists against Tennessee State, continuing a stretch of elevated scoring. In his last seven games, he is averaging over 13 points per contest.
For the Golden Eagles, forward JaJuan Nicholls provides a spark off the bench. He scored 16 points in 19 minutes against Southern Indiana, marking his second double-figure scoring effort in the last three games. His season-high 19 points came against Tennessee State on Dec. 30.
Morehead State’s offense has shown potency, averaging 78 points in its last five games, but its defense has struggled, allowing 84 per game in that span. Tennessee Tech has faced offensive challenges, failing to reach 65 points in four of its last five outings.
The Eagles won both meetings last season. In their most recent trip to Cookeville on Feb. 10, 2025, Morehead State secured a 72-68 victory.
Saturday’s game is the first of two regular-season meetings between the programs this season. They are scheduled to play again in Morehead, Kentucky, on Feb. 12.
Following this contest, Morehead State returns home to face Western Illinois on Jan. 22. Tennessee Tech begins a two-game road swing at Lindenwood on Jan. 22.
