Southern Illinois at Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (Interstat) — Two teams looking to halt losing streaks will meet Wednesday afternoon when the Southern Illinois Salukis visit the Memphis Tigers at FedExForum.

Southern Illinois (3-3) arrives after an 81-73 home loss to UAB on Monday. The Salukis were led in that contest by Quel’Ron House, who scored 18 points. Prince Aligbe added 13 points and a team-high seven rebounds.

Memphis (1-4) seeks to end a four-game skid, most recently a 69-68 home loss to Wake Forest last Friday. Dug McDaniel paced the Tigers with 24 points and six assists in the narrow defeat.

Both teams have faced challenging early schedules. The Salukis’ three losses have come by an average of 7.3 points, including an overtime defeat at Nevada. The Tigers’ losing streak includes road games against then-Purdue and Ole Miss.

Southern Illinois has shown a capable offense, averaging 83.8 points in its five games against Division I opponents. Memphis, meanwhile, has struggled defensively, allowing an average of 80.2 points during its four-game slide.

Wednesday’s contest is the first of a two-game homestand for Memphis, which hosts New Orleans on Dec. 3. Southern Illinois will return home to face Arkansas-Little Rock on Saturday.
