Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at Nicholls State

THIBODAUX, La. (Interstat) — A pair of Southland Conference men’s basketball teams looking to build momentum will meet Saturday when the Nicholls State Colonels host the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders at Stopher Gym.

The Islanders (12-11) enter the contest after a narrow 71-69 home loss to Incarnate Word on Monday. The Colonels (10-13), meanwhile, are coming off a 61-58 road victory at Northwestern State the same day, giving them two wins in their last three outings.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi holds a slight edge in the overall season record, but Nicholls State won the first meeting this season, 76-71, in Corpus Christi on Dec. 29. The rematch in Thibodaux figures to be another tightly contested conference battle.

A key player to watch for the Islanders is guard Sheldon Williams. He is coming off a 13-point performance against Incarnate Word and has been a consistent scorer, including a 22-point outing in a win at Incarnate Word on Jan. 24. His ability to create offense will be crucial for the visitors.

The Colonels will counter with guard Zee Hamoda, who has emerged as a primary offensive threat. Hamoda logged 40 minutes and scored 16 points in the win at Northwestern State and had 18 points in a victory at Texas A&M-Commerce on Jan. 31. His recent surge in minutes and production has provided a spark for Nicholls State.

Both teams have shown inconsistency within conference play, making this a pivotal game for positioning in the Southland standings. The Islanders will aim to leverage their slightly better record and avenge their December loss, while the Colonels will seek to defend their home court and build on their recent road success.

The game is scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. CST tipoff on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026.
