Utah State at Fresno State
FRESNO, Calif. (Interstat) — A surging Utah State team riding a seven-game win streak will face a Fresno State squad seeking consistency when the Mountain West Conference rivals meet Tuesday afternoon at Save Mart Center.
The Aggies (10-1) have been one of the nation’s early surprises, with their only loss a 74-61 defeat at South Florida on Dec. 4. They are coming off a dominant 100-58 victory over Colorado State on Dec. 20, where their depth was on full display. Kolby King nearly posted a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds, while Adlan Elamin added 15 points and eight boards, and Mason Falslev scored a team-high 18 points.
King, a player to watch for Utah State, is averaging 7.5 points and 4.5 rebounds over his last four games, including a 10-point, nine-rebound performance against Colorado State.
Fresno State (6-6) has struggled against a tough schedule, dropping its last three games. The Bulldogs fell 84-72 at UNLV on Dec. 20, despite 18 points from forward Wilson Jacques. Jacques has been a bright spot, averaging 13.3 points and 7.7 rebounds over the three-game skid, including a 12-point, 14-rebound effort at Arkansas on Dec. 6.
The Bulldogs will need a standout performance from Jacques and backcourt leaders like Jake Heidbreder (17 points vs. UNLV) and Zaon Collins (15 points, 7 assists) to counter Utah State’s balanced attack. Fresno State’s defense, which allowed an average of 85 points in its recent losses, will be tested by an Aggies offense averaging over 83 points per game.
Tuesday’s contest opens the conference slate for both teams. Utah State will look to establish itself as a league contender, while Fresno State aims to stabilize its season with a statement home win.
