Illinois at Michigan State
EAST LANSING, Mich. (Interstat) — A top-10 showdown with major Big Ten implications is set for Saturday when Illinois visits Michigan State at the Breslin Center.
The Fighting Illini (20-3, 10-2 Big Ten) enter on a 10-game winning streak, their latest a dominant 84-44 rout of Northwestern on Wednesday. The Spartans (19-4, 9-3), meanwhile, look to rebound after a narrow 76-73 road loss to Minnesota that snapped a six-game win streak.
This matchup features two of the nation’s most dynamic guards. Illinois is powered by Andrej Stojakovic, who is averaging 15.2 points during the win streak and dropped 30 points in a win over Maryland last month. His scoring punch from the wing is a constant threat.
Michigan State counters with floor general Jeremy Fears, who leads the Big Ten in assists and is coming off a 31-point performance against Michigan. His ability to control tempo and create for others, evidenced by a 17-assist game against Maryland, will be critical against Illinois’ pressure.
The Illini’s resurgence has been built on defensive efficiency, holding opponents to an average of 62.8 points during their streak. They will be tested by a potent Spartan offense averaging 86.2 points in their last five home games.
Michigan State holds a slight historical edge at home in the series, but Illinois won the last meeting. With both teams separated by just one game in the loss column of the conference standings, the result will significantly shape the race for the Big Ten regular-season title.
Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. EST on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026.
