Duke at Stanford
Preview of Top-10 Clash as Duke Visits Stanford
PALO ALTO, Calif. (Interstat) — A marquee nonconference showdown highlights the weekend slate as the second-ranked Duke Blue Devils travel across the country to face the Stanford Cardinal on Saturday at Maples Pavilion.
The matchup, organized by the Atlantic Coast Conference, pits two of the nation’s top teams in a critical late-January test. Duke (16-1) brings a nine-game winning streak to the West Coast, its lone loss a one-point defeat to Texas Tech on Dec. 20. Stanford (14-4) is riding high after a statement 95-90 victory over then-North Carolina on Wednesday.
All eyes will be on a duel between two of college basketball’s premier talents. Duke is led by sophomore forward Cameron Boozer, a consistent force averaging 22.1 points, 6.4 rebounds and 5.1 assists. Boozer is coming off a 21-point performance in a 71-56 win at California and has scored 17 or more points in 12 straight games.
He will be matched by Stanford’s dynamic guard Ebuka Okorie, who is averaging 24.6 points and 4.1 assists. Okorie exploded for 36 points and 9 assists in the upset of North Carolina, showcasing the explosive scoring ability that makes him a national Player of the Year candidate. His performance against the Tar Heels followed a 31-point effort in a road win at Virginia Tech.
Duke’s defense, allowing just 69.2 points per game, will face its sternest test in weeks against Okorie and a Cardinal offense averaging 78.8 points. The Blue Devils have held their last three opponents under 70 points.
Stanford’s four losses have come by an average of just 7.5 points, with two in defensive struggles against Virginia and Notre Dame. The Cardinal will need to contain a balanced Duke attack that, beyond Boozer, features double-figure scorers in Isaiah Evans and Caleb Foster.
This contest serves as a pivotal resume builder for both sides before they return to their conference schedules. Duke leads the all-time series 6-2, but the teams have not met since 2020.
Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. PST Saturday at Maples Pavilion. The game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.
