Bowling Green at Kent State
Preview: Bowling Green Falcons at Kent State Golden Flashes
KENT, Ohio (Interstat) — A pivotal early Mid-American Conference men’s basketball showdown is set for Tuesday night when the Bowling Green Falcons visit the Kent State Golden Flashes at the Memorial Athletics Center.
Both teams enter with identical 11-win records and championship aspirations. Bowling Green (11-4, 1-1 MAC) arrives fresh off a dramatic 101-100 overtime road victory at Massachusetts on Saturday. Kent State (11-3, 1-1 MAC) held serve at home, defeating Northern Illinois 77-73 the same day.
The matchup features two of the league’s premier players in stellar form. Bowling Green is led by dynamic guard Javontae Campbell, who is coming off a career performance. He poured in 47 points, dished 8 assists and grabbed 6 rebounds in the win at UMass, logging 45 minutes. Over his last five games, Campbell is averaging 19.0 points, 6.4 assists and 5.0 rebounds.
Kent State counters with forward Delrecco Gillespie, a consistent force who posted 28 points and 9 rebounds against Northern Illinois. In his last four outings against Division I competition, Gillespie is averaging 19.0 points and 7.5 rebounds.
The Falcons’ season has been marked by explosive offense, including wins of 125-66 over Siena Heights and 131-50 over Aquinas, but also a recent 93-83 home loss to Miami (Ohio). Kent State’s resume includes a strong road win at UMass but also a 101-60 loss at No. 3-ranked Purdue on Dec. 29.
This contest represents a critical early test in the MAC race. The Falcons will look to leverage Campbell’s scoring and playmaking to secure a key road win. The Golden Flashes, led by Gillespie’s interior presence, aim to protect their home court and gain a head-to-head advantage.
The teams will meet again in Bowling Green on Feb. 17.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
