Southern at San Jose State

SAN JOSE, Calif. (Interstat) — Two teams looking to build momentum will meet Friday when the Southern Jaguars visit the San Jose State Spartans in a non-conference men’s basketball game at the Event Center.

Southern (2-3) arrives after a hard-fought 99-93 double-overtime loss at Washington on Tuesday. The Jaguars were led by Michael Jacobs, who scored 24 points while playing 47 minutes, and Cam Amboree, who added 18 points and nine assists. The Jaguars’ two wins this season came in blowout fashion against non-Division I opponents, Champion Christian and Ecclesia, but they have dropped all three of their games against high-major foes.

San Jose State (1-3) is coming off its first victory of the season, a 110-56 rout of Bethesda on Monday. In that game, Jermaine Washington and Colby Garland each scored 16 and 17 points, respectively, while dishing out six assists apiece. The Spartans’ three losses have come on the road against Utah, UC Santa Barbara and Michigan State.

Friday’s contest represents a chance for both programs to secure a rare win against a Division I opponent early in the season. Southern will continue a challenging road stretch, while San Jose State looks to defend its home court before heading to a neutral-site game against Tulsa next Tuesday.
