Stephen F. Austin at Houston Christian
HOUSTON (Interstat) — A surging Stephen F. Austin team looks to rebound from a rare setback when it visits Houston Christian in a men’s NCAA Division I basketball game Saturday at Sharp Gymnasium.
The Lumberjacks (25-4), among the nation’s winningest teams, saw a nine-game win streak snapped with a 77-73 home loss to New Orleans on Monday. Prior to that, their last defeat was on Jan. 10.
They will face a Huskies squad (11-18) coming off a narrow 69-68 road victory at Texas A&M-Commerce, which snapped a two-game skid.
Stephen F. Austin, which boasts a potent offense, is led by guard Keon Thompson. Over his last eight games, Thompson is averaging 19.6 points and 5.9 assists, including a 32-point outing on Feb. 14. He was a bright spot in the loss to New Orleans, contributing 19 points and six assists.
Houston Christian will counter with forward Mambourou Mara, a defensive presence who has blocked multiple shots in four of his last eight contests. He scored 13 points and had two blocks in the win over Commerce.
The teams met earlier this season in Nacogdoches, with Stephen F. Austin securing an 85-67 victory on Jan. 10. The Lumberjacks have dominated the recent series, winning the last 15 matchups dating back to 2013.
For Stephen F. Austin, the game represents a final tune-up before the conference tournament, as they aim to solidify their postseason resume. Houston Christian, playing its home finale, will look to build momentum and play spoiler against one of the league’s elite teams.
Tipoff is set for Saturday, February 28, 2026. Stephen F. Austin travels to Incarnate Word next on March 2, while Houston Christian hosts Lamar the same day.
