Oklahoma State at Arizona
Preview: Arizona Hosts Oklahoma State in Big 12 Showdown
TUCSON, Ariz. (Interstat) — The undefeated and top-ranked Arizona Wildcats put their perfect record on the line Saturday when they host the Oklahoma State Cowboys in a Big 12 men’s basketball matchup at McKale Center.
Arizona (22-0, 9-0 Big 12) is one of the nation’s last remaining unbeaten teams and sits atop the conference standings. The Wildcats are coming off an 87-74 road win over rival Arizona State on Jan. 31, led by 17 points and seven rebounds from standout guard Brayden Burries.
Burries, a sophomore, has been a consistent force, averaging 16.4 points over his last seven games, including a 29-point performance in a win at BYU. He is complemented by a deep roster featuring Koa Peat and Jaden Bradley, who combined for 31 points in the win over the Sun Devils.
Oklahoma State (16-6, 5-4) arrives in Tucson riding a two-game winning streak after a 99-92 victory over BYU on Wednesday. The Cowboys are led by high-scoring guard Anthony Roy, who erupted for 30 points in that win. Roy has averaged 22.3 points over his last three contests, providing the offensive firepower for a team seeking a signature road win.
The Cowboys have shown resilience but have struggled against top-tier competition, with all six losses coming against teams currently ranked or receiving votes. Their conference road record is 2-3.
This game presents a stark contrast in consistency. Arizona has won its nine conference games by an average of 18.2 points, showcasing a dominant defense and balanced scoring. Oklahoma State has been more volatile, capable of high-scoring outputs but vulnerable to defensive lapses.
The Wildcats’ relentless defense, which leads the Big 12 in scoring margin, will be tested by Roy’s hot hand. Containing him will be a primary focus for an Arizona backcourt that prides itself on perimeter pressure.
A win would extend Arizona’s remarkable start and solidify its hold on the conference lead. For Oklahoma State, an upset in one of college basketball’s most hostile environments would dramatically bolster its NCAA tournament resume and announce the Cowboys as a serious Big 12 contender.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. MST Saturday at McKale Center. The game will be televised on ESPN.
