Saint Bonaventure at Fordham

Preview: Saint Bonaventure at Fordham

NEW YORK (Interstat) — Two Atlantic 10 teams hovering near .500 will meet Saturday when the Fordham Rams host the Saint Bonaventure Bonnies at Rose Hill Gym.

The matchup is a quick rematch of a Jan. 10 game won by Fordham, 81-77, in Olean, New York. That result gives the Rams (12-11) a slight edge in the conference standings and the head-to-head tiebreaker as both teams seek positioning for the upcoming A-10 tournament.

Saint Bonaventure (13-10) arrives after a narrow 72-70 road loss at first-place Dayton on Tuesday, a game in which the Bonnies led late. Guard Dasonte Bowen, the team’s engine, logged 38 minutes with 14 points and four assists in that defeat. Over his last eight games, Bowen is averaging 13.1 points and 6.4 assists while routinely playing nearly the entire contest.

Fordham is looking to rebound from a 63-59 home loss to VCU on Tuesday. The Rams are 8-4 at Rose Hill this season. Their success is often tied to the production of guard DeJour Reaves, who scorched the Bonnies for 31 points, six assists and four rebounds in the January victory. In the teams’ first meeting, Fordham overcame a 10-point halftime deficit by outscoring Saint Bonaventure 49-35 in the second half.

Both teams have struggled for consistency in league play. The Bonnies have lost four of their last five, though the losses include tight road defeats at Dayton and Saint Joseph’s. Fordham has split its last six games, showcasing its potential in a 79-65 road win at George Washington but also suffering double-digit losses to Duquesne and Saint Louis.

The game will feature a compelling backcourt duel between Bowen and Reaves, whose explosiveness keyed Fordham’s earlier win. Saint Bonaventure will need more from its supporting cast after Frank Mitchell (16 points) and Cayden Charles (13 points) provided help alongside Bowen at Dayton.

Tip-off is set for Saturday afternoon in the Bronx. Following this game, Fordham travels to Saint Joseph’s on Tuesday, while Saint Bonaventure returns home to host Duquesne on Feb. 14.
