Top-10 Showdown Set as Gonzaga Hosts Saint Mary’s

SPOKANE, Wash. (Interstat) — A pivotal West Coast Conference clash with national implications is set for Saturday when the Gonzaga Bulldogs host the Saint Mary’s Gaels at a sold-out McCarthey Athletic Center.

The matchup features the conference’s top two teams, with Gonzaga (21-1, 7-0 WCC) holding a narrow lead over Saint Mary’s (19-3, 6-1) in the standings. The Bulldogs’ lone loss came in non-conference play, while the Gaels’ only league defeat was a 62-54 road loss at Santa Clara on Jan. 17.

Gonzaga enters on a 12-game winning streak but is coming off a narrow 68-66 home victory over San Francisco last Saturday. Guard Jalen Warley led the Bulldogs with 19 points in that contest and has been a consistent scorer, averaging 14.3 points over his last four games.

Saint Mary’s has won five of its last six, most recently a 75-69 win at Portland. The Gaels are powered by guard Joshua Dent, who is averaging 17.0 points and 7.0 assists over his last three outings. In the Jan. 24 win over the Pilots, Dent played all 40 minutes, contributing 13 points and seven assists, while forward Paulius Murauskas added a team-high 24 points.

The Bulldogs have dominated the series historically, but the Gaels have secured victories in two of the last five meetings. Both teams boast top-15 national rankings and elite efficiency metrics, promising a high-stakes battle.

Gonzaga’s offense, averaging 84.2 points per game, will test a Saint Mary’s defense that allows just 64.7 points, ranked seventh nationally. The Bulldogs are 11-0 at home this season.

The game tips off at 7 p.m. PST and will be televised on ESPN. The teams will meet again in Moraga, California, on Feb. 28 to conclude the regular season.
