Radford at Presbyterian
CLINTON, S.C. (Interstat) — A pair of .500 teams seeking momentum in the Big South Conference will meet Saturday when the Radford Highlanders visit the Presbyterian Blue Hose.
The matchup at the Templeton Center features two teams with identical 11-11 overall records. Radford (11-11) and Presbyterian (11-11) are looking to break recent inconsistent stretches as the conference schedule nears its final month.
Radford arrives after a 93-83 home loss to High Point last Friday, its second straight defeat following a two-game win streak. The Highlanders’ offense runs through guard Del Jones, who is in the midst of a prolific scoring run. Over his last six games, Jones is averaging 23.0 points, including a 27-point performance in an 80-61 win over Presbyterian on Jan. 7.
Presbyterian looks to rebound from a 82-72 home loss to Winthrop last Saturday. The Blue Hose are 3-3 in their last six games, with guard Carl Parrish serving as a key catalyst. Parrish is averaging 16.8 points over that span and scored 19 in the earlier loss at Radford.
In the Jan. 7 meeting, Radford used a strong defensive effort and 27 points from Jones to secure a decisive victory. The Highlanders held Presbyterian to 36.2% shooting from the field.
Both teams have shown the ability to win close games, with Radford edging Longwood 85-83 on Jan. 17 and Presbyterian nipping UNC Asheville 71-70 on Jan. 14. Consistency has been elusive, making this a pivotal game for postseason positioning.
The winner will move above .500 and gain a valuable conference victory heading into February, while the loser will need to regroup quickly with the bulk of the league schedule remaining.
