Houston at Texas Tech
Preview: Houston Cougars at Texas Tech Red Raiders
LUBBOCK, Texas (Interstat) — A high-stakes Big 12 rematch awaits Saturday at United Spirit Arena as the Houston Cougars, boasting the nation’s premier record, visit the surging Texas Tech Red Raiders.
Houston (17-1, 5-0 Big 12) arrives with a 10-game winning streak, its lone loss coming in non-conference play. The Cougars are dominating on both ends, leading the nation in scoring defense and coming off a 103-73 demolition of Arizona State last Sunday. Guard Kingston Flemings is playing at an All-American level, averaging 16.2 points and 6.0 assists over his last six games. He scored 23 points in the first meeting with Texas Tech.
Texas Tech (15-4, 4-1) has won four straight since that 69-65 loss in Houston on Jan. 6, including an impressive 92-73 road win at Baylor on Tuesday. The Red Raiders’ offense has ignited, averaging 86.5 points during the streak, fueled by guard Christian Anderson. After being held to seven points in the loss at Houston, Anderson has averaged 22.3 points and 6.5 assists over the last four contests.
The Jan. 6 game was a defensive struggle, with neither team shooting above 40% from the field. Houston’s ability to force 15 turnovers and outscore Texas Tech 15-2 off those miscues proved decisive.
This matchup features a classic strength-on-strength battle: Houston’s relentless, top-ranked defense against a Texas Tech offense that has found its rhythm. The Cougars’ physicality will be tested in a hostile road environment, while the Red Raiders must solve Houston’s defensive puzzles to avenge the earlier loss and solidify their NCAA tournament résumé.
Tipoff is set for Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026. The game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.
Houston next plays at TCU on Jan. 28. Texas Tech’s next game is at UCF on Jan. 31.
