Eastern Illinois at Morehead State
HALDEMAN, Ky. (Interstat) — Two teams looking to climb the Ohio Valley Conference standings will meet Saturday when the Morehead State Eagles host the Eastern Illinois Panthers at E.T. Johnson Arena.
The matchup features squads with nearly identical records. Morehead State (9-10) holds a slight edge over Eastern Illinois (8-11) overall, but both enter the contest seeking consistency in league play.
The Eagles are coming off a 76-70 road victory at Tennessee Tech last Saturday, led by guard George Marshall’s 16 points and four assists. Marshall has been a key offensive catalyst, averaging 16.4 points over his last five games, including a 29-point outburst in an overtime loss to Tennessee State on Jan. 15.
Eastern Illinois arrives with momentum from a dominant 105-49 rout of Blackburn on Sunday. The Panthers have shown a recent uptick, winning four of their last six games. Guard Zion Fruster has been central to that surge, averaging 14.3 points over that stretch. He posted 16 points and five rebounds in just 19 minutes in the win over Blackburn.
The Panthers’ recent success has been fueled by a three-game home winning streak, but they now face a conference road test. Morehead State has proven tough at home this season, most notably securing a narrow 71-69 win over Southeast Missouri State on Jan. 10.
Historically, the series has been competitive, adding intrigue to this mid-season clash. The teams will meet again in Charleston, Illinois, on Feb. 19.
For Eastern Illinois, containing Marshall will be a priority, while Morehead State must contend with a versatile Panthers backcourt led by Fruster. With both teams hovering near .500, the result could prove pivotal for seeding in the upcoming OVC Tournament.
Tip-off is set for Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026.
