Arkansas State at Troy
TROY, Ala. (Interstat) — A pivotal Sun Belt Conference men’s basketball matchup featuring identical records and a quick rematch awaits Saturday when the Troy Trojans host the Arkansas State Red Wolves.
The game, set for Jan. 17, 2026, at Trojan Arena, is a chance for Troy (12-6) to avenge an 86-74 loss in Jonesboro just 10 days prior. Both teams enter with 12-6 overall records, adding stakes to the league standings.
Arkansas State (12-6) is looking to rebound from a tough 91-87 overtime road loss at South Alabama on Thursday. In that game, Matt Hayman scored 15 points with four assists, while Royal Blue Smith and Jaxon Ellingsworth each added 18 points. Hayman, a key player for the Red Wolves, averaged 16.2 points over his last five games, including 13 points and four assists in the Jan. 7 win over Troy.
The Trojans (12-6) are riding high after a dominant 91-65 home victory over Southern Mississippi on Wednesday. Guard Cobi Campbell erupted for a season-high 30 points in that win, a stark contrast to his quiet 6-point performance in the earlier loss to Arkansas State. Campbell’s scoring surge, alongside Victor Valdes (19 points vs. Southern Miss), will be central to Troy’s hopes.
The previous meeting was defined by Arkansas State’s offensive efficiency. Containing Hayman and improving its defensive effort will be paramount for a Troy team seeking to protect its home court and even the season series.
Following this contest, Arkansas State travels to face Georgia Southern on Jan. 22. Troy’s next game is at Old Dominion on Jan. 21.
Tip-off is scheduled for Saturday afternoon at Trojan Arena.
