UNC Asheville at Radford
FAIRLAWN, Va. (Interstat) — A surging Radford looks to continue its climb in the Big South Conference standings when it hosts a UNC Asheville team seeking consistency on Saturday at the D.N. Dedmon Center.
The Highlanders (9-8) have won four straight games, including an 80-61 league victory over Presbyterian on Wednesday. Guard Del Jones has been instrumental, averaging 18.3 points over the last three contests. He erupted for 27 points in the win over Presbyterian, showcasing the offensive firepower Radford will rely on.
UNC Asheville (7-10) snapped a three-game skid with a 72-61 home win against Longwood on Wednesday. The Bulldogs have struggled on the road this season, however, and will need a strong performance from guard DJ Patrick. Patrick leads the team and is coming off an 18-point, 5-assist effort in the victory. His production often dictates the Bulldogs’ success.
Radford holds a slight edge in the season series in recent years, but both teams enter conference play looking to establish momentum. The Highlanders’ offense, averaging 84.2 points during their win streak, will test a UNC Asheville defense that has allowed 80 or more points in six of its ten losses.
The matchup features a contrast in styles: Radford’s high-scoring attack against a UNC Asheville team that has found wins by controlling tempo. Containing Jones will be a primary focus for the Bulldogs, while the Highlanders must account for Patrick’s playmaking and the scoring of Kameron Taylor, who had 24 points Wednesday.
Saturday’s contest is the first of two regular-season meetings between the programs this season. They will meet again in Asheville on Feb. 21.
Tip-off is set for 4:30 p.m. EST at the Dedmon Center. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
