Jacksonville State at Delaware

Preview: Jacksonville State at Delaware

NEWARK, Del. (Interstat) — Conference USA play opens Friday afternoon at the Bob Carpenter Center as the Delaware Blue Hens host the Jacksonville State Gamecocks.

Both teams enter the matchup seeking consistency. Jacksonville State (6-6) has alternated wins and losses over its last five games, most recently defeating Western Kentucky 78-67 on Monday. Delaware (4-8) looks to rebound from a 61-43 home loss to Missouri State that same day.

The Gamecocks will lean on guard AC Bryant, who is coming off a 23-point performance against Western Kentucky and a 29-point outing in a win at East Tennessee State on Dec. 20. His scoring surge will be central to Jacksonville State’s attack.

Delaware’s hopes rest heavily on forward Macon Emory, who recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds in the loss to Missouri State. He provides a key interior presence for a Blue Hens squad that has struggled offensively, failing to reach 70 points in six of its eight losses.

This contest begins a critical stretch for both programs. Jacksonville State faces a quick turnaround, visiting Liberty on Sunday. Delaware remains at home to host Kennesaw State on Sunday.

The Gamecocks hold a slight edge in record, but both teams have faced similar volatility early in the season. The matchup between Jacksonville State’s backcourt, led by Bryant, and Delaware’s frontcourt, anchored by Emory, will likely dictate the tempo and outcome of the conference opener.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST Friday.
