RICHMOND, Va. (Interstat) — Charleston Southern built a first-half lead and held off a late rally to upset Richmond 77-72 on Sunday at Robins Center.

The Buccaneers led 39-35 at halftime and maintained a narrow advantage throughout the second half before securing the road victory in front of 4,888 fans. Brycen Blaine led Charleston Southern with 23 points and seven rebounds. Richmond’s AJ Lopez scored a team-high 22 points in the loss.

The Spiders, who entered as heavy favorites, fell to 10-3. Charleston Southern improved to 9-6.
