Charleston Southern at Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. (Interstat) — The Richmond Spiders, riding high with one of the nation’s best records, look to close their non-conference schedule with another victory when they host the Charleston Southern Buccaneers at Robins Center on Sunday.

Richmond (10-2) has won eight of its last nine games, including a dominant 80-56 win over The Citadel last Saturday. The Spiders have been efficient on both ends of the floor, boasting a potent offense that averages over 83 points per game. A key catalyst has been sophomore guard Jaden Daughtry, who is coming off a 17-point performance in just 16 minutes against The Citadel. Over his last five games, Daughtry is averaging 12.4 points in under 18 minutes per contest, providing a major spark off the bench.

Charleston Southern (8-6) aims to bounce back from a 76-84 road loss at Furman last Sunday. The Buccaneers’ offense runs through dynamic guard A’lahn Sumler, who poured in 26 points with five assists in that defeat. Sumler has scored in double figures in nine straight games, averaging 15.9 points per contest this season. Support comes from forward Jesse Hafemeister (14 points, 5 rebounds vs. Furman) and rim protector Lase Olalere, who had nine rebounds and three blocks in the loss.

The matchup presents a stark contrast in momentum. The Spiders’ two losses are by a combined six points, while the Buccaneers have struggled against higher-level competition, with losses to Furman, Tennessee-Martin and South Carolina. Richmond’s depth and balance, featuring consistent contributors like Mike Walz and AJ Lopez alongside Daughtry, will challenge a Charleston Southern defense allowing 73.6 points per game.

This game concludes the non-conference slate for both teams. Richmond opens Atlantic 10 play on New Year’s Eve against George Washington, while Charleston Southern begins Big South Conference action on Jan. 3 against UNC Asheville.

According to FanDuel Sportsbook, Richmond is a 12.5-point favorite. The over/under is 151.5 points.

Tip-off is set for Sunday afternoon at Robins Center.
