Arkansas Overpowers Queens (NC) Behind Acuff’s Double-Double

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (Interstat) — In a game defined by a blistering opening salvo, the Arkansas Razorbacks left no doubt about their offensive firepower, dismantling the Queens University Royals 108-80 in a nonconference men’s basketball game Tuesday night at a sold-out Bud Walton Arena.

The contest was effectively decided in the first 10 minutes, as Arkansas unleashed a staggering offensive display to build an insurmountable lead. The Razorbacks, improving to 9-2, shot a scorching 60% from the field in the first half and connected on 10 of 18 three-point attempts before halftime, racing to a 60-36 advantage at the break. The Royals, who fell to 5-7, could not match the pace or precision, particularly from beyond the arc where they finished just 6 of 25.

The most important part of the game was Arkansas’s immediate and overwhelming offensive execution from the opening tip. After Queens’ Jordan Watford opened the scoring with a jumper, Arkansas responded with a 15-2 run, fueled by precise ball movement and hot shooting. The Razorbacks assisted on 13 of their 36 made field goals and converted 14 Royals turnovers into 23 points, consistently capitalizing on mistakes to fuel their transition game. This early onslaught set the tone, allowing Arkansas to lead by as many as 32 points in the second half while never letting the Royals within striking distance.

Darius Acuff Jr., the sophomore guard from Detroit, orchestrated the Razorback attack with a masterful performance, posting 23 points and 10 assists. It was his fourth double-double of the season and continued a stellar stretch of play, following recent outings of 20 points and eight assists against Texas Tech and 17 points with 10 assists versus Louisville. His backcourt partner, D.J. Wagner of Camden, New Jersey, added 10 points.

The frontcourt provided ample support, led by Trevon Brazile. The Springfield, Missouri, native scored a game-high 26 points in just 25 minutes, showcasing his versatility by hitting 4 of 7 from three-point range. Nick Pringle, a force inside, contributed 14 points and nine rebounds, while Billy Richmond (15 points) and Karter Knox (11 points) also reached double figures.

Queens, competing in its second season at the Division I level, was led by Nasir Mann’s 16 points. Maban Jabriel and Avantae Parker each scored 14, and Jordan Watford finished with 11 points, five assists and a block. The Royals struggled to generate consistent offense against Arkansas’s pressure, managing only six assists as a team against 16 turnovers.

Arkansas dominated the statistical battle, outshooting Queens 56.3% to 44.1% from the field and 50% to 24% from three-point territory. The Razorbacks also made 22 of 27 free throws compared to 14 of 20 for the visitors. The teams played to an even 80 possessions, but Arkansas’s offensive rating of 135.3 dwarfed Queens’ mark of 100.6, underscoring the efficiency gap.

A crowd of 19,200 watched as Arkansas successfully navigated its final tune-up before a significant jump in competition level. The Razorbacks will next face the Houston Cougars on Saturday in Newark, New Jersey. Queens, which has faced a rigorous early schedule with road games at Wake Forest, Virginia and Villanova, continues its challenging stretch with a visit to Auburn on Dec. 29.
