CINCINNATI (Interstat) — Tre Carroll scored 30 points to lead Xavier to a 79-74 men’s basketball victory over Cincinnati on Friday night at Cintas Center.

The Musketeers, who improved to 7-3, used a 42-point second half to pull away after the teams were tied 37-37 at halftime. The Bearcats, who fell to 6-3, shot just 11 for 22 from the free-throw line and committed nine turnovers.

Carroll’s efficient performance on 13-for-24 shooting keyed the win. Shon Abaev led Cincinnati with 16 points. Xavier capitalized on Cincinnati’s mistakes, scoring nine points off turnovers while committing only four. A crowd of 10,880 watched the intracity rivalry game.
