UC Riverside at San Diego
SAN DIEGO (Interstat) — The San Diego Toreros, riding a three-game winning streak, will host the struggling UC Riverside Highlanders in a non-conference men’s basketball game on Friday at Jenny Craig Pavilion.
San Diego (3-1) is coming off a 78-68 home victory over Grambling on Tuesday. The Toreros’ backcourt duo of Ty-Laur Johnson and Juanse Gorosito has been pivotal, with Johnson scoring 15 points and dishing six assists in the win. Toneari Lane added 15 points off the bench. San Diego’s only loss this season was a narrow 71-68 defeat to Idaho State on Nov. 7.
UC Riverside (2-3) looks to rebound from a decisive 80-57 road loss to California Baptist on Tuesday. The Highlanders have dropped three of their last four games, with their only victory in that stretch coming against North Dakota on Nov. 6. Guard Marqui Worthy, who scored a team-high 15 points in the loss to Cal Baptist, will be a key factor for a Highlanders offense seeking consistency.
The game marks the start of a challenging stretch for both teams. Following Friday’s contest, UC Riverside will host Grambling on Monday. San Diego will hit the road for a game at California Baptist on Nov. 25 in Palm Desert.
Tipoff is set for Friday night in San Diego.
