Central Arkansas at Arkansas
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (Interstat) — The Arkansas Razorbacks delivered a commanding offensive performance, overwhelming the in-state rival Central Arkansas Bears 93-56 in a non-conference men’s basketball game Tuesday night before a crowd of 19,200 at Bud Walton Arena.
The Razorbacks improved to 2-1 on the young season, while the Bears fell to 1-2.
Arkansas seized control early with a blistering display of efficiency, building a 43-34 halftime lead before exploding for 50 points in the second half. The Razorbacks’ offense operated at a remarkably high level, scoring 93 points on just 74 possessions for an offensive rating of 124.9. In stark contrast, Central Arkansas managed only 56 points from 78 possessions, an offensive rating of 71.8.
The game was decided by a stark disparity in shooting. Arkansas connected on 31 of 63 field goal attempts, a 49.2 percent clip, and were potent from beyond the arc, hitting 13 of 34 three-point attempts. The Razorbacks also capitalized at the free-throw line, making 18 of 22 attempts.
Central Arkansas struggled immensely with its shooting touch. The Bears shot just 19 of 67 from the floor, a frigid 28.4 percent. Their long-range shooting was particularly disastrous, as they made only 4 of 41 attempts from three-point range. They were slightly better from the charity stripe, converting 14 of 21 free throws.
Karter Knox led a balanced and potent Arkansas attack, scoring 19 points in just 23 minutes of action. Darius Acuff Jr. was the game’s high scorer with 21 points and added four assists. Meleek Thomas facilitated the offense masterfully, contributing 17 points and a game-high six assists.
For the Bears, Camren Hunter scored 16 points and Ty Robinson added 15 points in the losing effort.
The Razorbacks dominated in transition, outscoring Central Arkansas 30-13 in fastbreak points. Arkansas also held a slight edge in points in the paint, 30-26. Both teams finished with an identical number of offensive rebounds (7), assists (5), steals (5), blocks (2), and turnovers (8), underscoring that the difference in the game was purely shooting efficiency.
The victory gives Arkansas momentum heading into its next contest against Samford on Friday. Central Arkansas will look to rebound when it travels to face North Texas on Nov. 20.
