Cowboys Dominate Aggies in Home Opener Behind Balanced Scoring Attack
STILLWATER, Okla. (Interstat) — In a result that defied pregame projections, the Oklahoma State Cowboys delivered a commanding performance to defeat the Texas A&M Aggies 87 to 63 in a men’s NCAA Division I basketball game Sunday at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
The game, played before an announced crowd of 7,501, saw the Cowboys improve their record to 2 wins and 0 losses, while handing the Aggies their first loss of the season, dropping them to 2 wins and 1 loss.
Oklahoma State seized control of the contest from the opening tip, establishing a dominant first-half presence that Texas A&M could never overcome. The Cowboys built a substantial 43 to 29 lead by halftime, effectively putting the game out of reach early. The Aggies showed a slight offensive improvement in the second half, scoring 34 points, but were unable to slow down the Cowboys, who added another 44 points to their tally to secure the 24-point victory.
The outcome was a significant upset according to statistical models. Interstat’s ELO system had projected Texas A&M with a 70.60 percent probability to win, and the Aggies had been installed as a pregame favorite by 1.5 points. The combined score of 150 points fell well short of the over/under line of 169.5.
Oklahoma State’s victory was a showcase of balanced and efficient scoring. Five different Cowboys players scored in double figures, overwhelming the Aggies’ defense with a multi-pronged attack.
Christian Coleman led all scorers with 16 points. The 6-foot-8 forward from Winnsboro, Louisiana, also contributed three rebounds and two blocked shots in 21 minutes of play.
Vyctorius Miller, a 6-foot-5 guard from Los Angeles, provided a strong all-around performance, scoring 15 points while dishing out a team-high five assists and grabbing four rebounds. His playmaking was crucial in breaking down the Texas A&M defense.
Parsa Fallah, the 6-foot-10 center from Amol, Iran, was a force in the paint despite playing only 23 minutes. He recorded 12 points and a team-leading seven rebounds, adding one assist and one block to his stat line.
Isaiah Coleman, a 6-foot-5 guard from Fredericksburg, Virginia, flirted with a double-double, finishing with 13 points and a game-high nine rebounds in 32 minutes. Point guard Jaylen Curry, from Charlotte, North Carolina, rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Cowboys with 12 points, four rebounds, and four assists.
For Texas A&M, the offensive production was more limited. Marcus Hill, a 6-foot-3 guard from Rockford, Illinois, was the lone bright spot, leading the Aggies with 14 points.
The frontcourt duo of Zach Clemence and Rashaun Agee provided effort on the boards but struggled to convert offensively. Clemence, a 6-foot-11 forward from San Antonio, Texas, tallied nine points and six rebounds. Agee, a 6-foot-7 forward from Chicago, Illinois, pulled down seven rebounds to go with seven points and two blocked shots.
Ruben Dominguez, a 6-foot-6 guard from Puerto Real, Spain, distributed four assists for the Aggies, while Josh Holloway of Memphis, Tennessee, added six points and three rebounds.
The loss halted the early-season momentum for Texas A&M, which had opened its campaign with two decisive home victories. The Aggies defeated Northwestern State 98 to 68 on Tuesday and followed that with a 104 to 70 win over Texas Southern on Thursday.
Oklahoma State, meanwhile, continued its strong start to the season. The Cowboys opened their schedule with a 95 to 71 victory over Oral Roberts on Tuesday and have now won both of their games by double-digit margins.
Looking ahead, Texas A&M will aim to rebound when it returns to its home court to face UCF on Friday, November 14. The Aggies will then host Montana on November 18, followed by a series of home games against Manhattan and Mississippi Valley State before embarking on a neutral-site game against Florida State in Tampa on November 28 and a road contest at Pittsburgh on December 2.
Oklahoma State will look to build on its perfect start when it hosts Prairie View on Wednesday, November 12. The Cowboys’ upcoming homestand also includes games against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on November 16, South Florida on November 19, and Nicholls State on November 22. A notable non-conference test awaits on December 13 when the Cowboys face rival Oklahoma in a neutral-site game in Oklahoma City.
