Auburn at Alabama

AUBURN, Ala. (Interstat) — The regular-season finale for both teams carries significant weight as the Alabama Crimson Tide host the Auburn Tigers in a fierce Southeastern Conference rivalry game Saturday at Coleman Coliseum.

Alabama (22-8, 12-5 SEC) enters the contest looking to solidify its position near the top of the conference standings and bolster its case for a high seed in the NCAA tournament. The Crimson Tide have won seven of their last nine games, showcasing one of the nation’s most potent offenses. They average 91.2 points per game, ranking second nationally.

Auburn (16-14, 7-10) seeks a critical resume-building victory to enhance its postseason prospects after a challenging conference slate. The Tigers snapped a five-game skid with an 88-74 home win over LSU on Tuesday but have struggled on the road, losing six of their last seven away from home.

The matchup will feature a scintillating backcourt duel between two of the league’s top guards. Auburn’s fortunes hinge on the dynamic play of sophomore Tahaad Pettiford, who is averaging 24.4 points over his last seven games. He erupted for 27 points and six assists in the win over LSU and scored 25 with seven assists in the first meeting with Alabama.

Alabama will counter with sophomore Labaron Philon, a catalyst for their high-octane attack. Philon is averaging 23.3 points over his last four contests, including a 35-point, seven-assist performance in a double-overtime win over Arkansas. He was instrumental in the first matchup, posting 25 points, six assists and five rebounds in Alabama’s 96-92 victory at Auburn on Feb. 7.

In that game, the teams combined for 188 points and 28 made 3-pointers. Another shootout is expected, as Alabama leads the SEC in scoring and 3-pointers made, while Auburn ranks third in the conference in 3-point percentage defense.

For Alabama, a win would secure a double-bye into the quarterfinals of the upcoming SEC tournament. For Auburn, an upset on the road would provide a major momentum shift heading into postseason play. The Tigers have not won in Tuscaloosa since 2021.

Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. CST. The game will be televised on ESPN.
