Howard at Norfolk State
NORFOLK, Va. (Interstat) — A surging Howard team looks to continue its dominant run through the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference when it visits Norfolk State on Thursday night at Echols Hall.
The Bison (20-10) enter the regular-season finale having won seven of their last eight games, including a 90-70 victory over Coppin State on Monday. Their offense has been prolific during this stretch, averaging 86.6 points per game in those seven wins.
Howard is powered by guard Cedric Taylor, who has scored at least 21 points in five of his last seven outings. In the win over Coppin State, he tallied 21 points, five assists and three blocks. He was instrumental in Howard’s 88-60 rout of Norfolk State just over a month ago on Jan. 31.
Norfolk State (15-15) seeks to level its record and gain momentum before the conference tournament. The Spartans are coming off a 90-84 road loss at Morgan State on Monday, despite 23 points from Anthony McComb and 16 from Jaquel Morris.
Morris has provided a recent spark for the Spartans, reaching double-figure scoring in three of his last five games. The team has shown resilience at home, winning three of its last four at Echols Hall.
The matchup pits one of the MEAC’s top offenses against a Spartan squad that has struggled defensively at times. Howard’s high-powered attack, which has topped 90 points four times in February, will test a Norfolk State team that allowed 90 points in its last contest.
A Howard victory would secure a 20-win regular season and solidify its position near the top of the conference standings. For Norfolk State, the game represents a final opportunity to build confidence and solve the Bison’s potent lineup before a potential rematch in the league tournament.
Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
