Northern Arizona at Eastern Washington
CHENEY, Wash. (Interstat) — Two Big Sky Conference teams heading in opposite directions will meet Saturday when Eastern Washington hosts Northern Arizona at Reese Court.
The Eagles (12-17, 8-8 Big Sky) enter on a six-game winning streak, their longest of the season. Eastern Washington is coming off an 82-72 home victory over Northern Colorado on Thursday, fueled by 23 points and four blocks from forward Kiree Huie. Huie has been a central figure during the surge, averaging 16.9 points on efficient shooting over the last seven contests.
Conversely, the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks (10-19, 6-10) have lost three straight and seven of their last nine. They are looking to rebound from a 78-58 road loss at Idaho on Thursday. Guard Chris Komin, who leads the team, logged 40 minutes but was held to 11 points in that defeat. Komin’s production has been volatile; he erupted for 34 points in a one-point loss at Northern Colorado on Feb. 21 but has been held under 12 points in four of his last six outings.
This matchup is a quick rematch from Jan. 29, when Northern Arizona secured a 92-86 home win over Eastern Washington. The Lumberjacks will need a similar offensive performance to snap their skid, as they average just 66.2 points during their three-game losing streak.
Eastern Washington’s offense has found its rhythm, scoring 80 or more points in four of the six wins during its streak. Defensively, the Eagles have improved, holding their last two opponents under 73 points.
Saturday’s result will impact seeding for the upcoming Big Sky tournament. Eastern Washington can solidify a middle-tier seed with a victory, while Northern Arizona seeks to halt its slide and gain momentum heading into its regular-season finale Monday against Montana State.
