Iowa Falls to Penn State on Late Free Throws in Tight Contest
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (Interstat) — Freddie Dilione V made two free throws with one second remaining Saturday to lift Penn State to a 71-69 men’s basketball victory over Iowa at Bryce Jordan Center.
The Nittany Lions, who trailed by four at halftime, outscored Iowa 37-31 in the second half to secure the comeback. Josh Reed led Penn State with 25 points. Iowa’s Cooper Koch scored 18 points and Bennett Stirtz added 16. Both teams were efficient offensively, but Penn State’s 60% shooting from the field and a 15-4 advantage in made free throws proved decisive. The Hawkeyes forced 15 turnovers but were outrebounded. Iowa fell to 20-9. Penn State improved to 12-17.
