Denver at North Dakota
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (Interstat) — The North Dakota Fighting Hawks will look to complete a regular-season sweep and solidify their Summit League standing when they host the Denver Pioneers at Engelstad Arena on Saturday.
North Dakota (14-12, 5-4 Summit) enters with momentum, having won five of its last six games, including a 76-73 victory over Omaha on Thursday. The Fighting Hawks previously defeated Denver (11-14, 4-5) 93-86 on Jan. 24 in Denver.
Greyson Uelmen, who torched the Pioneers for 30 points in that January win, remains a focal point. The guard is averaging 19.4 points over his last seven contests, including a 21-point performance against Omaha. His scoring burst against Denver keyed the earlier victory.
Denver arrives after snapping a three-game skid with a 78-71 road win at North Dakota State on Thursday. The Pioneers are led by guard Zane Nelson, who is in a rhythm, averaging 18.9 points over his last eight games. He posted 19 points and five assists in the win over the Bison.
The Jan. 24 meeting was a high-scoring affair where North Dakota’s offense proved overwhelming. Containing Uelmen will be a primary defensive challenge for a Denver team allowing 78.2 points per game in conference play.
North Dakota holds a slight edge in the conference standings and seeks to protect its home court, where it is 9-3 this season. Denver, just a game back in the loss column, aims to even the season series and climb above .500 in league play.
The matchup features two of the Summit League’s top recent performers in Uelmen and Nelson, setting the stage for a critical conference clash as the regular season enters its final month.
Tip-off is set for Saturday afternoon at Engelstad Arena.
