Western Carolina at Wofford

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Interstat) — A surging Wofford squad looks to solidify its position in the Southern Conference standings when it hosts a struggling Western Carolina team on Saturday at Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium.

The Terriers (16-8) enter the matchup having won five of their last seven games, including an 81-67 road victory at Virginia Military Institute on Wednesday. They currently sit near the top of the league standings. The Catamounts (8-14), meanwhile, have lost three of their last four and are trying to climb out of the conference’s lower tier.

Wofford won the season’s first meeting 79-74 in Cullowhee on Dec. 31, part of a strong start to league play.

A key matchup will feature two of the conference’s top guards. Western Carolina’s Marcus Kell is coming off a career-high 27-point performance in a narrow 81-78 loss at UNC Greensboro on Wednesday. Over his last five games, the dynamic scorer is averaging 16.6 points.

He will be countered by Wofford’s Cayden Vasko, who is orchestrating the Terriers’ efficient offense. Vasko exploded for 26 points and five assists in the win at VMI, demonstrating his ability to score in bunches and facilitate for others. His playmaking will be central to Wofford’s attack.

The Terriers have been strong at home this season and will rely on that advantage. Western Carolina has shown flashes, including a 90-88 overtime win at East Tennessee State on Jan. 29, but has struggled with consistency, particularly on the defensive end.

For the Catamounts to pull the road upset, they will need another high-output game from Kell and must find a way to slow Vasko and Wofford’s balanced scoring attack. The Terriers aim to protect their home court and complete the regular-season sweep as they make a push for the conference tournament’s upper seeds.

Tip-off is set for Saturday afternoon in Spartanburg.
