Duke at North Carolina
Preview of Duke vs. North Carolina
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (Interstat) — The nation’s top-ranked team faces its most heated rival Saturday when the Duke Blue Devils visit the North Carolina Tar Heels in an Atlantic Coast Conference showdown.
The game, scheduled for Feb. 7, 2026, at the Dean Smith Center, features a Duke squad (21-1, 11-0 ACC) that has dominated its schedule, winning 12 consecutive games since its only loss to Texas Tech on Dec. 20. North Carolina (18-4, 9-2) has won five straight, positioning itself to challenge for the conference lead.
Duke’s engine is sophomore forward Cameron Boozer, a national player of the year candidate averaging 22.8 points on 58% shooting over his last seven games. He scored 32 points and grabbed nine rebounds in a win over Wake Forest on Jan. 24 and is coming off a 19-point effort in Tuesday’s 67-49 victory over Boston College.
The Tar Heels counter with their own standout forward, senior Henri Veesaar. He is averaging 18.1 points during the team’s winning streak, including a 20-point, 12-rebound, four-block performance in a win at Georgia Tech on Jan. 31. In Monday’s 87-77 win over Syracuse, Veesaar had 17 points and four assists.
This matchup is the first of two regular-season meetings between the rivals, with the rematch set for March 7 at Duke’s Cameron Indoor Stadium. The Blue Devils have not lost a true road game this season, while the Tar Heels are 11-1 at home.
North Carolina’s four losses have come by a combined 20 points, including narrow defeats at Stanford (95-90) and California (84-78) in January. Duke’s defense has been stifling, holding opponents under 60 points in five of its last seven games.
The outcome will have significant implications for the ACC regular-season title race and NCAA tournament seeding. Duke aims to solidify its hold on the ranking, while North Carolina seeks a statement win to bolster its championship credentials.
