Siena at Saint Peter`s
JERSEY CITY, N.J. (Interstat) — A surging Siena Saints squad visits the Saint Peter’s Peacocks on Saturday in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men’s basketball clash at Yanitelli Center.
The Saints (17-7, 11-2 MAAC) enter on a six-game winning streak, their latest an 79-72 victory over Iona on Thursday. They sit atop the conference standings and have won 10 of their last 11 contests. The Peacocks (13-8, 8-4), meanwhile, are looking to build momentum after an 80-75 road win at Manhattan on Thursday snapped a brief two-game skid.
The matchup features two of the league’s premier guards. Siena is powered by Gavin Doty, who is averaging 21.4 points over his last seven games. He scored 25 points in 40 minutes against Iona and has been the engine for the Saints’ high-powered offense, which has scored 78 or more points in four of its last five outings.
Saint Peter’s will counter with Bryce Eaton, who is coming off a 21-point, 6-assist performance against Manhattan. The Peacocks rely on a staunch defense, allowing just 66.3 points per game at home this season. They will need that identity to slow a Siena team averaging 77.1 points during its current win streak.
The teams split last season’s series, each winning on their home floor. They are scheduled to meet again in Loudonville, New York, on Feb. 22.
For Siena, a win would solidify its hold on first place. For Saint Peter’s, a victory would provide a crucial resume boost and tighten the MAAC race. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. EST on Saturday, Feb. 7.
