Southern Utah at Utah Tech
ST. GEORGE, Utah (Interstat) — In-state and conference rivals will meet Saturday when Southern Utah visits Utah Tech in a Western Athletic Conference men’s basketball game at Burns Arena.
The Trailblazers (10-11) won the first meeting this season, 80-66, on Dec. 29 and will look to complete the regular-season sweep. The Thunderbirds (7-13) enter with momentum, having won three of their last four games, including an 84-70 victory over Utah Valley on Wednesday.
Southern Utah is led by guard Jaiden Feroah, who is averaging 16.1 points over his last seven games. He scored 18 points with five assists in the win over Utah Valley. In the first matchup against Utah Tech, however, he was held to a season-low four points.
Utah Tech has lost three of its last four, most recently falling 73-64 at California Baptist on Wednesday. Guard Jusaun Holt paced the Trailblazers in that loss with 21 points and four assists. He was a key factor in the December win over Southern Utah, finishing with 14 points, four assists and three blocks.
The Thunderbirds’ recent surge has been fueled by improved offense, scoring 74 or more points in each of their three wins. Utah Tech’s defense, which held Southern Utah to 36% shooting in the first game, will be tested again.
Southern Utah’s three-game winning streak at home was snapped by the earlier loss to Utah Tech. The Trailblazers are 6-3 at home this season.
Following this game, Southern Utah will travel to face Texas-Arlington on Jan. 29. Utah Tech hits the road for its next contest at Abilene Christian on the same date.
Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. MST Saturday.
