Bellarmine at North Florida
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Interstat) — Two ASUN Conference men’s basketball teams seeking to reverse difficult seasons will meet Saturday when the Bellarmine Knights visit the North Florida Ospreys at UNF Arena.
Bellarmine (6-12, 1-4 ASUN) enters on a five-game losing streak, most recently an 89-69 road loss to Eastern Kentucky on Jan. 17. The Knights’ last victory was an 84-78 overtime win against Central Arkansas on Jan. 8.
North Florida (3-16, 1-5) has lost six of its last seven, including a 98-69 defeat at Central Arkansas on Saturday. The Ospreys’ lone conference win was a 105-91 offensive outburst at North Alabama on Jan. 15.
A key matchup will feature Bellarmine’s Brian Waddell against North Florida’s Dalton Gayman. Waddell, a consistent scorer, has averaged 16.2 points over his last six games, including a 20-point performance against North Alabama on Jan. 10. Gayman has provided scoring punch for the Ospreys, averaging 12.6 points over his last seven contests, with a season-high 18 points at Austin Peay on Jan. 1.
Both teams have struggled defensively. Bellarmine has allowed 89 or more points in three of its last five losses. North Florida has surrendered 98 points or more in three of its last four defeats, highlighting a potential for a high-scoring affair.
The Knights will look to exploit their recent success against North Florida, having won the last meeting. For the Ospreys, the home game represents a critical opportunity to build momentum before a challenging stretch of conference play.
Saturday’s contest is scheduled for a 5 p.m. EST tipoff. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
