Georgia at Texas

Preview: Georgia Bulldogs at Texas Longhorns

AUSTIN, Texas (Interstat) — The surging Georgia Bulldogs, boasting one of the nation’s top records, face a Texas Longhorns squad seeking a résumé-defining win in a Southeastern Conference men’s basketball matchup Saturday at the Frank Erwin Center.

Georgia (16-3, 5-2 SEC) arrives having won four of its last five, including a gritty 74-72 road victory at Missouri on Tuesday. The Bulldogs’ high-powered offense, which has scored 90 or more points five times this season, is fueled by balance and efficiency.

A key player for the Bulldogs is guard Marcus Millender. He is coming off an 18-point performance at Missouri and has scored in double figures in five of his last seven games, including a 24-point outing in a win over Auburn earlier this month. His backcourt play will be critical against Texas’s pressure.

The Texas Longhorns (11-8, 3-4) have faced a brutal early conference slate, with their last four opponents all ranked. They are looking to rebound from an 85-80 loss at Kentucky on Wednesday. Despite the record, Texas has shown potency, notably in a 92-88 win at Alabama on Jan. 10.

The Longhorns are led by dynamic guard Dailyn Swain, who is averaging 22.3 points over his last three games. He exploded for 29 points at Kentucky and 34 in an overtime loss to Mississippi State, proving capable of carrying the offensive load.

This contest pits Georgia’s consistent excellence against a Texas team accustomed to facing top-tier competition. The Longhorns’ challenge will be containing Georgia’s multifaceted attack, while the Bulldogs must defend a hostile environment and a talented scorer in Swain.

Saturday’s game is the first of a regular-season home-and-home series. The teams will meet again in Athens on Feb. 21.

Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. CST.
