Samford at Wofford
Preview: Samford Bulldogs at Wofford Terriers
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Interstat) — Two Southern Conference teams heading in opposite directions will meet Wednesday night when the Wofford Terriers host the Samford Bulldogs at Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium.
Wofford (12-7) enters with momentum from a 74-70 road victory over Furman on Saturday. The Terriers have won four of their last five conference games.
Samford (9-10) looks to halt a three-game skid, most recently a heartbreaking 76-75 home loss to East Tennessee State on Saturday. The Bulldogs have lost five of their last seven.
The matchup features two of the league’s premier scorers. Samford’s offense flows through guard Jadin Booth, who is averaging 21.4 points over his last seven games. He poured in 31 points in a win over Western Carolina on Jan. 7 and has logged at least 35 minutes in six consecutive contests.
He will be countered by Wofford’s high-scoring guard Nils Machowski. He is averaging 24.6 points over his last five games, including a 37-point outburst in a win at The Citadel on Jan. 3. In the win over Furman, he scored 20 points.
Samford’s recent struggles have been defined by narrow defeats, with three of their last four losses coming by four points or fewer. In addition to Booth, Keaton Norris (14 points, six assists) and Dylan Faulkner (12 points, four blocks) were key contributors in the loss to ETSU.
For Wofford, balance behind Machowski has been crucial. Kahmare Holmes also scored 20 points against Furman, and Brian Sumpter added 10.
The Bulldogs won both meetings last season. Wednesday’s game is the first of a regular-season series split, with the rematch scheduled for Feb. 11 in Birmingham, Alabama.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. EST.
