Abilene Christian at Southern Utah
CEDAR CITY, Utah (Interstat) — A surging Abilene Christian looks to continue its climb in the Western Athletic Conference standings when it visits struggling Southern Utah on Saturday.
The Wildcats (10-7) have won three of their last five, including an 85-68 home victory over Utah Valley on Jan. 3. They are coming off a 72-82 road loss at Texas-Arlington last Saturday, despite a 27-point performance from guard Bradyn Hubbard.
Hubbard has been the catalyst for Abilene Christian, averaging 22.2 points over his last six games. He posted a triple-double with 22 points, 10 rebounds and six assists in the win over Utah Valley.
Southern Utah (4-13) seeks to end a five-game losing streak, most recently a 55-58 heartbreaker at California Baptist. The Thunderbirds have struggled defensively during the skid, allowing an average of 80.4 points per game.
Forward Jaiden Feroah has been a bright spot for Southern Utah, scoring in double figures in three of the last four contests. He led the team with 16 points against California Baptist.
The matchup at Centrum Arena pits one of the WAC’s top offensive units against its most vulnerable defense. Abilene Christian averages 75.2 points per game, while Southern Utah allows a conference-worst 78.9 points per contest.
Historically, the home team has dominated this series, with each program winning on its own court last season. Abilene Christian will look to buck that trend behind Hubbard’s hot hand, while Southern Utah aims to leverage home court and find a defensive answer to stop its slide.
Saturday’s game tips off a key two-week stretch for both teams as they navigate the conference schedule.
