Central Arkansas Dominates North Florida in ASUN Conference Matchup
CONWAY, Ark. (Interstat) — Camren Hunter scored 26 points to lead a dominant offensive performance as Central Arkansas overwhelmed North Florida 98-69 in an ASUN Conference men’s basketball game Saturday at Farris Center.
The Bears (9-10, 3-3 ASUN) seized control with a blistering first half, shooting 50% from the field and building a 27-point lead by halftime. They never looked back, leading by as many as 32 points in the second half before settling for the 29-point victory in front of 802 fans. The Ospreys (3-16, 1-5) lost for the sixth time in seven games.
The most important part of the game was Central Arkansas’s explosive start, which effectively decided the contest within the first ten minutes. After a slow opening minute, the Bears unleashed a 17-2 run, transforming a 3-3 tie into a 20-5 lead. Hunter was the catalyst, scoring 11 points during that decisive stretch, including a trio of three-pointers. North Florida, plagued by early turnovers and cold shooting, could not mount a response. The Ospreys committed five turnovers in the first six minutes, which the Bears converted into easy transition opportunities, establishing a pace and margin from which North Florida could never recover.
Hunter, the Bears’ top scorer, was efficient in his 22 minutes, adding four assists. His backcourt mate, Luke Moore, facilitated the offense with a game-high five assists. The Bears’ depth was on full display as six players scored in double figures. Cole McCormick had 10 points and three assists, Ty Robinson added 12 points, Tyler Lee scored 11, and Parker Applegate contributed 10 points off the bench.
North Florida was led by Kent Jackson’s 13 points, while Dalton Gayman added 11. The Ospreys struggled mightily with ball movement and ball security, finishing with a season-low two assists against 13 turnovers. Their offensive rating of 95.1 was no match for Central Arkansas’s mark of 128.0, as the Bears scored nearly 1.3 points per possession.
Central Arkansas dominated every key statistical category. They outscored North Florida 40-22 in the paint, 21-6 on fast breaks, and 15-9 off turnovers. The Bears also outshot the Ospreys from the field, 50% to 41.8%, and from three-point range, hitting 14 of 38 attempts compared to North Florida’s 11 of 34.
The victory moved Central Arkansas to a 3-3 record in conference play, while North Florida’s struggles deepened as they fell to 1-5 in the ASUN. The Bears will look to build on the win when they travel to face West Georgia on Thursday. North Florida returns home to host Eastern Kentucky on the same night.
