Villanova Visits Butler in Key Big East Clash
INDIANAPOLIS (Interstat) — Two of the Big East’s hottest teams will meet Saturday when the Villanova Wildcats visit the Butler Bulldogs at historic Hinkle Fieldhouse.
Villanova (11-2) has won five straight, including a 71-66 conference win over DePaul on Wednesday. The Wildcats are led by guard Tyler Perkins, who scored 19 points in that victory and has averaged 14.8 points over his last four games. Bryce Lindsay also added 19 points against DePaul.
Butler (10-4) looks to bounce back from a narrow 89-85 road loss at Creighton on Tuesday. The Bulldogs have shown resilience, winning a double-overtime thriller against Providence and edging Northwestern in their last homestand. Forward Jamie Kaiser, who scored 16 points at Creighton, is a key offensive catalyst.
The matchup features contrasting strengths. Villanova brings a balanced, efficient attack into conference play, while Butler has proven formidable at home, boasting a 7-1 record at Hinkle this season. The Bulldogs’ high-scoring offense, which put up 113 points in their win over Providence, will test a Villanova defense that has held its last three opponents under 67 points.
This game marks the conference opener for both teams. Villanova aims to solidify its top-tier ranking, while Butler seeks a signature win to bolster its NCAA tournament resume.
Saturday’s winner will gain early momentum in the crowded Big East race. Villanova visits Marquette next Saturday, while Butler hosts Saint John’s on Tuesday.
Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. EST.
