Texas Southern at Vanderbilt
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Interstat) — The undefeated Vanderbilt Commodores look to continue their hot start when they host the winless Texas Southern Tigers in a nonconference men’s basketball game Thursday at Memorial Gymnasium.
Vanderbilt (4-0) has opened the season with four dominant victories, all by at least 22 points. The Commodores are coming off a 104-75 rout of Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday, where they showcased a balanced attack. Duke Miles led the way with 20 points and six assists, while Devin McGlockton added 17 points and nine rebounds. Tyler Tanner dished out nine assists in the win.
Conversely, Texas Southern (0-4) is still searching for its first win under first-year head coach. The Tigers fell 77-67 at Texas State in their last outing. Troy Hupstead was a bright spot in that loss, scoring 19 points and grabbing nine rebounds. Zaire Hayes added 17 points. The Tigers’ season has been marked by a challenging schedule, including road losses to then-Gonzaga and Texas A&M.
The game presents a stark contrast in early-season momentum. Vanderbilt’s high-powered offense, averaging over 100 points per game, will test a Texas Southern defense that has allowed an average of 93.5 points.
This is the first meeting between the two programs. Following this game, Vanderbilt heads to the Bahamas to face Western Kentucky, while Texas Southern returns home to host Biblical Studies.
