South Carolina Upstate at High Point
HIGH POINT, N.C. (Interstat) — A surging High Point looks to rebound from its first conference loss when it hosts a struggling South Carolina Upstate team in a Big South men’s basketball matchup Saturday at Qubein Arena.
The Panthers (16-4) saw a seven-game win streak snapped in a 92-75 road loss to Winthrop on Wednesday. Prior to that, High Point had dominated league play, including a 104-49 rout of Gardner-Webb and an 84-82 overtime win at Charleston Southern. Guard Rob Martin has been a consistent force, averaging 12.8 points over his last seven games, including a 20-point effort in the overtime victory at Charleston Southern.
The visiting Spartans (9-10) are coming off an 86-81 overtime win at Charleston Southern on Wednesday, snapping a four-game skid. Learic Davis led the way with 22 points, bouncing back from a two-point performance in a home loss to Winthrop. Davis is averaging 14.2 points over his last five contests.
High Point’s high-powered offense, which has scored 80 or more points in 11 games this season, will test a Spartans defense that has allowed an average of 76.2 points in conference play. The Panthers won both meetings last season by an average of 22 points.
The game is set for a 7 p.m. tipoff. Following this contest, High Point travels to Radford on Jan. 24, while South Carolina Upstate hosts UNC Asheville on Jan. 21.
