Appalachian State at Coastal Carolina
CONWAY, S.C. (Interstat) — Appalachian State looks to sweep the regular-season series and continue its climb in the Sun Belt standings when it visits Coastal Carolina on Saturday at HTC Center.
The Mountaineers (10-7) defeated the Chanticleers (8-9) decisively, 67-49, in Boone just over three weeks ago on Dec. 18. Appalachian State enters having won two of its last three, including a gritty 52-50 road victory at Georgia State on Thursday. Coastal Carolina seeks to halt a three-game skid after falling 70-66 at home to Old Dominion the same night.
Appalachian State forward Luke Wilson has been a consistent force, averaging 13.5 points and 7.2 rebounds over his last six games. He posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds in the first meeting against Coastal Carolina. The Mountaineers have relied on a defense that held the Chanticleers to a season-low 49 points in the December matchup.
Coastal Carolina will counter with guard Joshua Beadle, its leading scorer in conference play. Beadle is averaging 16.7 points over his last three contests, including an 18-point effort against Old Dominion. He was held to eight points in the loss at Appalachian State. The Chanticleers have struggled defensively of late, allowing an average of 80.3 points during their current losing streak.
The game is a pivotal early conference matchup for both teams. Appalachian State can solidify its position in the upper half of the league, while Coastal Carolina aims to get back to .500 overall and gain momentum before a two-game road trip next week.
Saturday’s contest tips off at 2 p.m. EST and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
