SAN DIEGO (Interstat) — Alex Chaikin scored 21 points to lead UC San Diego to an 83-73 victory over Hawaii in a Big West Conference men’s basketball game Saturday at RIMAC Arena.

The Tritons (12-3) used a 12-2 run late in the first half to build a 36-29 halftime lead and never trailed again. The Warriors (11-3) closed within four points several times in the second half but could not overtake UC San Diego, which scored 20 fast-break points and committed only seven turnovers.

Bol Dengdit added 19 points for the Tritons. Harry Rouhliadeff led Hawaii with 16 points, and Dre Bullock added 15. A crowd of 1,808 watched as UC San Diego improved its home record to 8-1 this season.
