Ohio at Eastern Michigan
Preview: Ohio Bobcats at Eastern Michigan Eagles
YPSILANTI, Mich. (Interstat) — Two teams riding the momentum of strong recent performances will meet Saturday when the Ohio Bobcats visit the Eastern Michigan Eagles in a Mid-American Conference men’s basketball matchup.
The game, scheduled for Jan. 3, 2026, at the Convocation Center, features teams with identical 7-6 records against Division I competition, though Ohio sits at 7-7 overall. Both squads are coming off convincing home victories this past Tuesday.
Ohio enters after an 80-64 road win over Central Michigan, powered by a near triple-double from guard Jackson Paveletzke. The standout junior scored 23 points, grabbed seven rebounds and dished nine assists in 37 minutes. Paveletzke has been on a scoring tear, averaging 22.2 points over his last five games, including a 25-point effort in an overtime win over Saint Bonaventure.
Eastern Michigan countered with an 80-74 home win over Massachusetts, led by guard Carlos Hart’s 23 points. Hart has been a key offensive catalyst, averaging 20.5 points in his last two contests. Forward Mohammad Habhab added 20 points, six assists and three blocks in the victory, showcasing the Eagles’ balanced attack.
The Bobcats have shown offensive firepower, scoring 88 or more points in three of their last five games. However, consistency has been an issue, as seen in a 58-68 home loss to Bowling Green on Dec. 20.
Eastern Michigan’s season has featured notable highs, including a road win at Cincinnati, but also lopsided losses to power conference foes Louisville and Butler.
Saturday’s contest opens the MAC schedule for both teams and could hinge on the backcourt duel between Paveletzke and Hart. Ohio will also look to forward Aidan Hadaway, who posted a 13-point, 11-rebound double-double against Central Michigan.
The game tips off a critical January stretch as both programs aim for positioning in the conference standings.
