Coppin State at Morgan State
BALTIMORE (Interstat) — A crucial Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference men’s basketball matchup awaits Thursday night as the Morgan State Bears host the Coppin State Eagles at Hill Field House.
The Bears (13-15, 7-4 MEAC) enter on a high note after a 90-84 home victory over Norfolk State on Monday. They will look to complete a regular-season sweep of their Baltimore rival. Morgan State won the first meeting 89-80 at Coppin State on Jan. 31.
Morgan State is led by dynamic guard Elijah Davis, who is coming off a 15-point, 10-assist double-double against Norfolk State. Over his last six games, Davis has averaged 15.7 points and 8.8 assists, including a 15-assist performance against Delaware State on Feb. 21.
Conversely, the Eagles (7-22, 5-6) aim to halt a two-game skid after a 90-70 road loss at Howard on Monday. Despite the defeat, guard Jamari Piercy provided a bright spot with 15 points in 31 minutes. Piercy has been a key scorer for Coppin State, averaging 11.8 points over his last five appearances.
Coppin State’s recent results have been a mix, with three wins in its last six conference games, including narrow road victories at South Carolina State and North Carolina Central in mid-February. Containing Davis and Morgan State’s offense, which has scored 90 points in two of its last three games, will be the primary challenge.
The game tips off at 7:30 p.m. EST on Thursday, March 5, at Morgan State’s Hill Field House. With MEAC tournament seeding implications on the line, the Bears seek to solidify their standing while the Eagles fight to level the season series and gain momentum for the postseason.
