Gauchos Use Turnovers, Fast Breaks to Pull Away From Titans

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (Interstat) — UC Santa Barbara used a decisive advantage in points off turnovers to defeat Cal State Fullerton 83-69 in a Big West Conference men’s basketball game Saturday at Thunderdome.

The Gauchos, now 15-7, converted 16 Titans turnovers into 25 points and outscored Fullerton 19-11 on fast breaks. That proved the difference despite relatively even shooting percentages. CJ Shaw led UCSB with 17 points, while Colin Smith added 13.

Kiwane Garris came off the bench to score a game-high 18 points for the Titans, who fell to 10-13. Cal State Fullerton kept pace early, trailing just 38-29 at halftime, but could not contain the Gauchos’ transition attack in the second half. Attendance was 2,584.
