Stony Brook at Elon
Preview: Stony Brook Seawolves at Elon Phoenix
ELON, N.C. (Interstat) — Two teams riding opposite momentum swings in the Colonial Athletic Association will meet when the Elon Phoenix hosts the Stony Brook Seawolves on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026, at Schar Center.
Both teams enter with identical 12-9 overall records, but their recent form diverges sharply. Stony Brook has won three of its last four, including a 95-80 road victory at Northeastern last Thursday and a double-overtime, 112-106 home win over College of Charleston on Jan. 17. The Seawolves’ offense has surged, averaging 88.5 points in those four games.
Elon, conversely, looks to halt a two-game skid following losses to Towson (72-59) and at College of Charleston (80-70). The Phoenix have shown volatility, mixing a strong road win at Hofstra on Jan. 17 with recent defensive struggles.
The matchup features two of the conference’s top scorers. Stony Brook is led by guard Erik Pratt, who is coming off a 31-point, 9-assist performance against Northeastern. Over his last seven games, Pratt is averaging 26.1 points and 5.0 assists, including a 39-point, 13-assist outing against Charleston.
Elon counters with forward Chandler Cuthrell, who has scored 17 or more points in six consecutive contests. He posted 20 points and 7 rebounds in the loss at Charleston and averages 20.3 points per game during that six-game stretch.
The game could hinge on tempo. Stony Brook’s high-octane attack, which also features Andrej Shoshkikj (22 points vs. Northeastern), will test an Elon defense that allowed 80 points in its last outing. Elon will rely on Cuthrell and backcourt support from Bryson Cokley to exploit a Seawolves defense that has been porous at times.
This marks the only scheduled meeting between the teams this season. With the CAA standings tightly packed, the result will provide key momentum heading into February’s stretch run. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. EST.
