Tigers, Rebels Meet in SEC Showdown
UNIVERSITY, Miss. (Interstat) — Two Southeastern Conference teams heading in opposite directions will meet Saturday when the Missouri Tigers visit the Mississippi Rebels at The Pavilion at Ole Miss.
Missouri (12-3, 2-0 SEC) enters on a high, riding a four-game winning streak that includes a 76-74 home victory over Florida and a pivotal 73-68 road win at Kentucky on Wednesday. The Tigers have shown resilience in conference play after a 91-48 non-conference road loss to Illinois last month exposed some vulnerabilities.
The Tigers are led by forward Mark Mitchell, who is coming off a 21-point, 4-assist performance in 36 minutes against Kentucky. Over his last four games, Mitchell is averaging 14.8 points and has been a consistent offensive catalyst.
Mississippi (8-7, 0-2), meanwhile, seeks its first conference win after opening SEC play with an 86-70 loss at Oklahoma and a 94-87 home loss to Arkansas on Wednesday. The Rebels have struggled against high-major competition, with a 1-5 record in such games this season.
Guard Ilias Kamardine has been a bright spot for the Rebels, scoring 16 points with 4 assists against Arkansas. His playmaking will be crucial against Missouri’s aggressive defense.
Missouri’s backcourt duo of Jayden Stone (20 points vs. Kentucky) and Anthony Robinson (10 assists vs. Kentucky) provides balance alongside Mitchell. Mississippi will counter with forward Malik Dia, who also scored 16 points in the loss to Arkansas.
The Tigers have dominated recent non-conference foes but have been inconsistent away from home. The Rebels are 6-2 at The Pavilion this season and will rely on that home-court advantage to spring an upset and steady their season.
Saturday’s contest is the conference opener for both teams in a series Missouri leads 15-11. Following this game, Missouri hosts Auburn on Jan. 14, while Mississippi travels to face Georgia on the same date.
Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. EST.
