Western Illinois at California Baptist

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (Interstat) — The California Baptist Lancers, off to a perfect start, will look to continue their early-season momentum when they host the struggling Western Illinois Leathernecks in a non-conference men’s basketball game Friday.

The Lancers (2-0) are coming off a 69-61 road victory over UC Irvine on Nov. 7. Martel Williams led the way with 17 points and seven rebounds, while Dominique Daniels added 16 points and seven assists. Jonathan Griman recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Conversely, Western Illinois (0-3) is searching for its first win after a 74-58 loss at Cal State Bakersfield on Tuesday. Francis Okwuosah scored 14 points in the defeat, the Leathernecks’ third consecutive double-digit loss to open the season.

The game at CBU Events Center pits a hot Lancers offense, which is averaging 78 points per game, against a Leathernecks defense that has allowed an average of 77 points through its first three contests.

California Baptist will aim to protect its home court before a quick turnaround against crosstown rival UC Riverside on Tuesday. Western Illinois continues a challenging road stretch, hoping to break into the win column before returning home to face Coe on Monday.
